Welcome back to the Cosmic Luve log. I am writing a book about the conversations I have with the Gods.
Hi, I'm Eric Leo. Philosopher, sociologist, hip-hop artist, author, and a bit of a Shaman.
This post is part of my book Gaia Rules. Gaia Rules is the fourth part in a book series about celestial consciousness, or how the sun and planets are conscious and what was originally conceived as gods.
Gaia is the Greek goddess of the planet Earth, and this book is about having a conversation with the Greek Gods and hashing out what Gaia's Rules are and understanding her tenets while getting to know the rest of the solar system.
Yes, these are real conversations I have with entities that claim to be Gods in my head, including the Earth, sun, Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter.

“You used to talk about a food system. You want there to be places for people to go to get a free hot prepared meal. You said there should be as many as needed in every major city.”
That's right. Why?
“I don't really know”
Because that's the toll. I don't speak in money, you know that. I speak in real world outcomes and people need and deserve to be fed. These are mine. They need to know their loved.
“I know you wanted the government to pay for it”
Why
“Cosmic licensing or something.”
Bingo. Two things. If they're gonna till my soil, they don't get to hoard its yield. That is the price you pay to cultivate. And they owe me the restaurants because they put “in god we trust” on their money. That is a binding contact if they do not trust me to do this and if they do not provide, I will see it as a misappropriation of my image and a dereliction of duty.

“Because suffering is inherently negative to the creature experiencing it, the primary moral duty is to minimize suffering and promote the well-being of all feeling beings.”
“So the last one we’ll do is Buddism, we’ll maybe we’ll do Hinduism too, but the only thing I don’t know if I agree with is the ‘because suffering is inherently negative.’ I talk about this in the can and will do book about how resistance makes you strong and sometimes that suffering is necessary. And Buddhism says that the only constant is suffering. So I think it should say “physical pain” instead of “suffering” which is impossible to get rid of and not always negative, especially in the bigger picture. Maybe this is what Tel meant when he said this is just how it needs to be for our benefit although there’s aguish and hurt.”

Be good to one another.
This is the whole thing compressed, and it came first. Four words, and every tenet after it is just a clarification of what "good" means once the details get hard. If you throw the rest of this book away, keep this. Most people already know it and simply do not act on it, which is the real problem with ethics and always has been. The gap is never in the knowing.
Moral consideration is owed to whatever can feel.
Sentience is the qualifier. Not species, not intelligence, not usefulness to us, and not resemblance to us. That means dolphins, orca, elephants, great apes, ravens, octopus, the dog at your feet, the pig in the crate. And if the argument in The Myth of the Sun holds, it means the planets, the atmosphere, and the star we orbit. I do not say that treating a different species differently is the same thing as racism, because race and sex are social constructions and a bear is an actually different animal with actually different needs. Shake a bear's hand and see how your charm does. Species difference is real. What is not defensible is using that difference as a license, which is exactly what we do with it.
Every input returns as output, and there is no outside to the system.
This is the law the other eleven are built on. Newton's third law does not stop being true when you move from physics to society. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and economics is the physics of society. Put carbon in the air and the air gets hot. Extract from a community and the community destabilizes. There is no away to throw things. In a closed system every externality is an internality with a delay on it. That delay is the whole reason people get away with it long enough to look like they got away with it. The correction is real, it is just slow, and it does not respect the boundary of who caused it. The bill comes due on everybody, including the innocent, and usually after the ones who ran it up are gone. Do not read this as a promise that bad people suffer and good people get paid. That is the comfortable lie and I do not believe it. Read it as urgency. We are all downstream.
Reduce needless pain. Do not confuse pain with suffering.
I do not accept the standard formulation that suffering is inherently negative. Resistance is what makes anything strong, and I have written a whole book about that. Struggle, grief, effort, the discipline of doing something hard for years without a reward, the ache of caring about people who cannot help you back — none of that is a moral emergency and some of it is the point. What is a moral emergency is needless physical pain, terror, hunger, humiliation, preventable death, and suffering imposed on a creature for someone else's convenience or profit. Aim at that. And be honest about which one you are actually looking at, because "this is character building" is the oldest excuse in the world for hurting somebody.
Worship is what you do, not what you feel.
Feeling is not devotion. Love as a feeling is fleeting, subjective, and downstream of love as an action. Love as an action is the only kind with any weight in a feedback system, because a system cannot read your sentiment, only your input. So a church should be measured by what it gives back to its community, and a person by the same standard. Alignment is a practice. You honor Gaia by feeding people, not by admiring her.
The body is inviolable and subject to its own will alone.
This is the floor of free will. If you do not have final authority over your own body, then nothing else you are given counts as freedom, it counts as an allowance. This applies to women completely and without a negotiation, and anyone who tells you bodily autonomy is a separate side issue from liberty has not thought about where liberty would live if not there.
Freedom is reciprocal, including the freedom to offend.
You are owed the freedom of others, and they are owed yours. That includes speech you do not like, because the alternative is somebody deciding for everyone which discomfort is permitted, and that job always goes to the wrong person. To willfully and unjustly encroach on another's freedom is to forgo your own. Not as a punishment handed down from anywhere, but because that is how the loop works: take freedom out of the system and you are living in the system you just made.
Let belief follow evidence, and never the reverse.
Beliefs should conform to your best scientific understanding of the world, and you should never distort a fact to protect a belief. That includes these beliefs. I got here by way of the scientific method, not around it, and that is precisely why I think it counts. God should be self-evident, which means the claim has to survive being checked. If the evidence turns, the doctrine turns. Anything that demands you look away in order to keep holding it is not worth holding, no matter whose voice is attached to it.
Justice outranks law and institution.
The struggle for justice is ongoing and necessary and it prevails over laws and institutions when the two conflict. Legal has never meant right. Slavery was legal. Enclosure was legal. Redlining was legal. Every law worth having was illegal first, and every institution now defending itself was once the insurgency. So the obligation runs to justice, not to the paperwork, and when the paperwork says otherwise the paperwork is what changes.
Prosper, but never by harm.
Money is not evil. Money is good for the good it can do, and business built correctly is one of the most powerful instruments for repair we have. What is forbidden is prospering by extraction: taking the yield without paying the cost, treating the water and the air and the soil and other people's labor as free inputs and calling the difference profit. If they are going to till the soil, they do not get to hoard its yield. That is the price of cultivation. Pay the true cost to society and to the environment, account for what the planet does for you as the asset it is rather than the externality you booked it as, and then go make your money. This is the tenet that runs straight into Nouveau Economics, which is the how. And the toll gets paid in real-world outcomes, not in dollars: people fed, housed, and cared for. That is what the system reads.
You will get it wrong. Repair what you break.
People are fallible. When you make a mistake, you do your best to rectify it and to resolve whatever harm it caused, and you do that before you defend yourself. This one applies universally, all the way up. A god that cannot admit an error is not a god; it is a manager with tenure. If the tenets bind us they bind whoever handed them down, and I intend to hold them to it.
The spirit outranks the letter.
Every tenet here is a guiding principle meant to inspire nobility in action and thought, and the spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word — including these words. Inclination over doctrine. It is the people who conform perfectly to a doctrine you have to watch, because no variation means it is being applied rigidly when it should be custom-fit and improvable, the same way the Constitution was built to be amended by people who knew they could not see far enough ahead. If you ever have to choose between the rule and the good, choose the good. That is not a loophole. That is the instruction.

This post is part of my book Gaia Rules. Gaia Rules is the fourth part in a book series about celestial consciousness, or how the sun and planets are conscious and what was originally conceived as gods.
Gaia is the Greek goddess of the planet Earth, and this book is about having a conversation with the Greek Gods and hashing out what Gaia's Rules are and understanding her tenets while getting to know the rest of the solar system.

Because that's the toll. I don't speak in money, you know that. I speak in real world outcomes and people need and deserve to be fed. These are mine. They need to know their loved.

Bingo. Two things. If they're gonna till my soil, they don't get to hoard its yield. That is the price you pay to cultivate. And they owe me the restaurants because they put “in god we trust” on their money. That is a binding contact if they do not trust me to do this and if they do not provide, I will see it as a misappropriation of my image and a dereliction of duty.

Gaia’s 12 Rules:
Be good to one another.
This is the whole thing compressed, and it came first. Four words, and every tenet after it is just a clarification of what "good" means once the details get hard. If you throw the rest of this book away, keep this. Most people already know it and simply do not act on it, which is the real problem with ethics and always has been. The gap is never in the knowing.
Moral consideration is owed to whatever can feel.
Sentience is the qualifier. Not species, not intelligence, not usefulness to us, and not resemblance to us. That means dolphins, orca, elephants, great apes, ravens, octopus, the dog at your feet, the pig in the crate. And if the argument in The Myth of the Sun holds, it means the planets, the atmosphere, and the star we orbit. I do not say that treating a different species differently is the same thing as racism, because race and sex are social constructions and a bear is an actually different animal with actually different needs. Shake a bear's hand and see how your charm does. Species difference is real. What is not defensible is using that difference as a license, which is exactly what we do with it.
Every input returns as output, and there is no outside to the system.
This is the law the other eleven are built on. Newton's third law does not stop being true when you move from physics to society. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and economics is the physics of society. Put carbon in the air and the air gets hot. Extract from a community and the community destabilizes. There is no away to throw things. In a closed system every externality is an internality with a delay on it. That delay is the whole reason people get away with it long enough to look like they got away with it. The correction is real, it is just slow, and it does not respect the boundary of who caused it. The bill comes due on everybody, including the innocent, and usually after the ones who ran it up are gone. Do not read this as a promise that bad people suffer and good people get paid. That is the comfortable lie and I do not believe it. Read it as urgency. We are all downstream.
Reduce needless pain. Do not confuse pain with suffering.
I do not accept the standard formulation that suffering is inherently negative. Resistance is what makes anything strong, and I have written a whole book about that. Struggle, grief, effort, the discipline of doing something hard for years without a reward, the ache of caring about people who cannot help you back — none of that is a moral emergency and some of it is the point. What is a moral emergency is needless physical pain, terror, hunger, humiliation, preventable death, and suffering imposed on a creature for someone else's convenience or profit. Aim at that. And be honest about which one you are actually looking at, because "this is character building" is the oldest excuse in the world for hurting somebody.
Worship is what you do, not what you feel.
Feeling is not devotion. Love as a feeling is fleeting, subjective, and downstream of love as an action. Love as an action is the only kind with any weight in a feedback system, because a system cannot read your sentiment, only your input. So a church should be measured by what it gives back to its community, and a person by the same standard. Alignment is a practice. You honor Gaia by feeding people, not by admiring her.
The body is inviolable and subject to its own will alone.
This is the floor of free will. If you do not have final authority over your own body, then nothing else you are given counts as freedom, it counts as an allowance. This applies to women completely and without a negotiation, and anyone who tells you bodily autonomy is a separate side issue from liberty has not thought about where liberty would live if not there.
Freedom is reciprocal, including the freedom to offend.
You are owed the freedom of others, and they are owed yours. That includes speech you do not like, because the alternative is somebody deciding for everyone which discomfort is permitted, and that job always goes to the wrong person. To willfully and unjustly encroach on another's freedom is to forgo your own. Not as a punishment handed down from anywhere, but because that is how the loop works: take freedom out of the system and you are living in the system you just made.
Let belief follow evidence, and never the reverse.
Beliefs should conform to your best scientific understanding of the world, and you should never distort a fact to protect a belief. That includes these beliefs. I got here by way of the scientific method, not around it, and that is precisely why I think it counts. God should be self-evident, which means the claim has to survive being checked. If the evidence turns, the doctrine turns. Anything that demands you look away in order to keep holding it is not worth holding, no matter whose voice is attached to it.
Justice outranks law and institution.
The struggle for justice is ongoing and necessary and it prevails over laws and institutions when the two conflict. Legal has never meant right. Slavery was legal. Enclosure was legal. Redlining was legal. Every law worth having was illegal first, and every institution now defending itself was once the insurgency. So the obligation runs to justice, not to the paperwork, and when the paperwork says otherwise the paperwork is what changes.
Prosper, but never by harm.
Money is not evil. Money is good for the good it can do, and business built correctly is one of the most powerful instruments for repair we have. What is forbidden is prospering by extraction: taking the yield without paying the cost, treating the water and the air and the soil and other people's labor as free inputs and calling the difference profit. If they are going to till the soil, they do not get to hoard its yield. That is the price of cultivation. Pay the true cost to society and to the environment, account for what the planet does for you as the asset it is rather than the externality you booked it as, and then go make your money. This is the tenet that runs straight into Nouveau Economics, which is the how. And the toll gets paid in real-world outcomes, not in dollars: people fed, housed, and cared for. That is what the system reads.
You will get it wrong. Repair what you break.
People are fallible. When you make a mistake, you do your best to rectify it and to resolve whatever harm it caused, and you do that before you defend yourself. This one applies universally, all the way up. A god that cannot admit an error is not a god; it is a manager with tenure. It is the people who conform perfectly to a doctrine you have to watch, because no variation means it is being applied rigidly when it should be custom-fit and improvable, the same way the Constitution was built to be amended by people who knew they could not see far enough ahead. If you ever have to choose between the rule and the good, choose the good. That is not a loophole. That is the instruction.
That is the list. Twelve inputs. You do not have to believe a word of what I am, or what talks to me, or what any of this is, for the loop to run — which is the part I find reassuring rather than disappointing.
